Inspired by the Lowry Air Force Base Silver Ropes program that began in 1987, The Lowry Foundation proudly continues the spirit of volunteerism in the Lowry neighborhood and area. Participating volunteers have the opportunity to support The Lowry Foundation activities around the Chapel and important causes throughout Lowry and beyond.

We are excited to announce that the Lowry Foundation Silver Ropes volunteer program is starting up again this September. Over the past two years, our dedicated Silver Ropes Volunteers have contributed over 1,040 hours to support the essential work of the Food Bank of the Rockies. Your efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of many, and as we enter a new season, the need for our help is greater than ever.

Currently, one in nine people – including one in seven children – in Colorado is food insecure. These statistics are alarming and underscore the persistent increase in need across our region. To put it into perspective, in fiscal year 2024, the Food Bank of the Rockies distributed more than 94 million pounds of food, providing the equivalent of over 208,000 meals every single day. This represents a 15% increase in food distribution compared to the previous year.

Silver Ropes Volunteer Program Fall 2024 Schedule

After taking a break for July and August, we are gearing up for an active fall at the Food Bank of the Rockies. We will be volunteering on the following dates:

October 15, 2024 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
November 19, 2024 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
December 10, 2024 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

How to Register:

1.Visit this link to register

2. Click on the date you wish to volunteer and the green “Sign up” button next to the event on the page.

3. Log in to your account. If you do not have an account, you will need to create one. (You do not need a join code and can skip this step.)

4. As part of the event registration, you will be required to accept the volunteer agreement and waiver.

5. Once registered, you will receive an automatic confirmation email

All group participants must be signed up 2 weeks prior to the volunteer shift. 

     

    Past Opportunities

    • Lowry’s Independence Parade & Festival.
    • Regular Volunteers needed at Lowry Elementary School’s Vegetable Garden
      • Last year, the Victory Garden produced over 500 pounds of food to feed our community. During the school year, every LES student is involved in planting, maintaining, and harvesting the garden, learning valuable lessons about how to grow plants and where food comes from. May-August, 5-15 volunteers are needed one morning per week to help weed, control insect pests, and maintain the garden.
    • Denver General Hospital Newborns in Need  – first and third Wednesdays of each month
    • Food Bank of the Rockies
    • Annual Spring Clean-Up at Lowry Elementary
