DENVER, CO, November 8, 2018 – The Lowry Foundation announces the launch of its capital campaign to restore the community’s Eisenhower Memorial Chapel (the Chapel), located on the
former Lowry Air Force Base. The Chapel, which is listed on the National Register for Historic Places, and is a Denver Local Landmark, requires over $200,000 in repairs to preserve the
building’s exterior siding.

The Lowry Foundation has partnered with Historic Denver, who has secured a $105,000 Colorado State Historical Fund grant for a portion of this work and will operate as the project manager, overseeing implementation. The Foundation will focus on raising the matching funds for this grant on top of additional funds necessary to complete the restoration, totaling $100,00 from Lowry residents and the larger Denver community.

The first of four Lowry Air Force Base chapels, the Eisenhower Chapel is a non-denominational gathering place originally built for enlistees to worship. While the other three buildings have
since been demolished, the community preserved the Eisenhower Chapel because of its connection to President Dwight Eisenhower, who attended services with his wife Mamie during the summers of his administration.

The Chapel remains a gathering place for all types of community events, from concerts and meetings to weddings and memorial services. “Each year, thousands of people visit the chapel
to remember loved ones who served or to celebrate important moments in their lives,” said Jim Lusche, Chair of the Lowry Foundation’s Board of Directors. “By preserving the historic
Eisenhower Chapel, amongst the mix of old and new development in Lowry’s Town Center, we are making the community a special place to live and work.”

Scheduled to begin in April 2019, the four-month project will not impede on the Chapel’s operations. During that time, the Chapel will remain open and available for private events, as
well as the Lowry Speakers’ Series, neighborhood association meetings and foundation events.

Established in 1879, History Colorado is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and an agency of the State of Colorado under the Department of Higher Education. The State Historical Fund was
created by the 1990 constitutional amendment allowing limited gaming in the towns of Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. The amendment directs that a portion of the gaming tax
revenues be used for historic preservation throughout the state. Funds are distributed through a competitive process and all projects must demonstrate strong public benefit and community
support.  Grants vary in size, from a few hundred dollars up to $200,000.  The State Historical Fund assists in a wide variety of preservation projects including restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings, architectural assessments, archaeological excavations, designation and interpretation of historic places, preservation planning studies, and education and training
programs.
